Provider-specific findings

Billing and account research from public material

Provider-specific research notes are displayed separately from fields that contain only an unavailable-information marker. Read qualifiers in each note and verify current account terms with the provider.

Billing frequency
Bi-monthly: the City’s residential water-discontinuation policy says water service charges are payable once every two months, and the current service application states that services are billed bi-monthly, one month in arrears and one month in advance. Customers may elect to pay by direct bank debit monthly, but monthly billing statements are not available.
Rate structure
Metered two-tier residential structure with a meter-size fixed monthly base charge. The 2026 schedule charges residential Tier 1 usage through 9 CCF per month at $0.88 per 100 cubic feet and Tier 2 usage above 9 CCF at $1.62 per 100 cubic feet; commercial, institutional, and irrigation classes have separate uniform commodity rates. Flat rates are occasional exceptions and are transitioned to metered rates when applicable.
Residential cost reference
For a typical residential account using 5,000–7,000 gallons per month (about 6.7–9.4 CCF), the 2026 water schedule implies about $34–$36 per month for a 1-inch-or-smaller meter: $28.06 base plus Tier 1 water usage at $0.88 per CCF. The official 2026 residential wastewater charge is $97.85 per month, producing an estimated combined water-and-wastewater total of approximately $132–$134 before storm drainage, refuse, or other utility charges. Actual statements are bi-monthly.
Wastewater and sewer calculation
The 2026 residential wastewater schedule lists a flat $97.85 monthly charge per dwelling unit, including Sewer Upgrade SRF 1 and 2 components. Multi-family structures with four or more units on a common water meter are charged by the number of residential units; if units cannot be identified, the account remains on the applicable variable non-residential calculation. Non-residential wastewater uses a $45.31 monthly base plus flow rates of $7.97, $10.04, or $12.71 per CCF for low-, medium-, or high-strength service. Wastewater flow is tied to water consumption, and separate irrigation meters receive no wastewater charge.
Meter reading
Galt completed a citywide retrofit with Global/Fathom, installing Advanced Metering Infrastructure and upgrading existing meters to automated meter reading technology; all meters were reported installed by fall 2016. The City’s water system materials state that AMI enables automated reading and real-time water-use data for staff and customers, supporting leak and atypical-use detection. An Aclara onsite meter-read software implementation provides real-time usage visibility. The City bills bi-monthly, but the accessible public pages do not state a specific route-read day or hourly transmission interval.
New-account deposit
A security deposit equal to three months of estimated service, including 13 units of water consumption, may be required to establish or re-establish service. The current City utility application/search record gives illustrative deposits of approximately $545.25 or $560.70 depending on the applicable service combination, but the exact amount is account-specific. Deposit requirements may be waived with proof of acceptable credit. A deposit is required if service is disconnected for nonpayment, although the City FAQ states a one-time hardship waiver may be available.
Activation or transfer fee
No separate ordinary activation or account-transfer fee is identified on the current utility information page. Starting service requires an application, photo ID, and proof of ownership or tenancy (final settlement/deed or lease), submitted to Finance. Past balances and the required security deposit must be resolved; restoration after nonpayment uses the published $58.14 reconnection fee and any applicable deposit.
