Pay City of San Diego Public Utilities Department – Water/Wastewater Customer Support

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as Smart Energy Systems is identified in the City’s MyWaterSD payment FAQ as the third-party processor appearing in the card transaction description; the City does not separately identify the full customer-portal platform vendor.. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

A dedicated this detail was not publicly posted. MyWaterSD provides web/mobile access, recurring payments, and bill-due notifications, but the current official customer pages do not publish an SMS short code, text-to-pay keyword, or text enrollment sequence.

Mail-in address

City of San Diego Public Utilities Department, Customer Support Division, P.O. Box 129020, San Diego, CA 92112-9020. Include the bill payment stub and check or money order in the courtesy envelope; checks should be payable to City Treasurer and the account number should be written on the memo line. Do not mail cash.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

The Office of the City Treasurer lobby accepts walk-in water/wastewater payments during its published operating schedule, and the City also maintains a map of payment-center locations linked from the official Pay Your Bill page. The current web page does not reproduce a stable address-and-hours table for every third-party payment center, so customers should use the City map or call 619-515-3500 before visiting. The City Treasurer warns that it will not accept more than 50 unrolled coins from one person or business on a business day; card, check, money order, and cash availability can vary by location.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

MyWaterSD accepts bank-account payments and credit/debit cards. The official FAQ names Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover; the one-time payment page also describes bank account, ATM card, and debit-card options. Automatic Deduction withdraws from a checking account 15 days after the billing statement is issued. Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, and text-to-pay are not verified in the current City materials.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

Residential credit/debit-card payments incur a convenience fee of 1.59% of the transaction or $1.50, whichever is greater. Commercial accounts are charged 2.25%. The City’s automatic checking-account deduction is described separately and the current page does not state an added convenience fee for bank-account payments.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by City of San Diego Public Utilities Department – Water/Wastewater Customer Support and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
