Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
Suburban bills identify a specific past-due-after date; the reviewed public rules do not state a universal number of grace days after that date before delinquency action. The individual bill and any discontinuance notice control. Customers who receive a notice should contact Suburban before the scheduled date to request investigation, alternative payment arrangements, or an eligible health, safety, or hardship accommodation.
Late-fee calculation
The reviewed 2026 tariff and payment materials do not publish a universal residential percentage late fee or daily interest rate. The account remains responsible for delinquent charges and may incur a reconnection fee, returned-payment charge, deposit, special service charge, local tax, or third-party payment fee where authorized. The amount printed on the account notice controls any assessed item.
Disconnection timeline
Suburban's Rule 11 requires a discontinuance notice and states that a customer who fails an installment agreement receives a further notice at least five business days before discontinuance. Residential health-and-safety protections can require a medical certification, proof of financial inability, and willingness to enter an amortization or alternative payment plan; repayment plans should generally resolve the balance within 12 months. Service is not discontinued on Saturdays, Sundays, legal holidays, or when business offices are closed, and the utility avoids Fridays and days before holidays. Once payment posts, Suburban says normal restoration is within 36 hours and is performed during regular business hours.
