- Monthly. Rio Rancho's current rate sheet publishes monthly water and wastewater base/volume charges and the WQA is converted to a monthly wastewater quantity.
- Rate structure
- Meter-size monthly base charge plus increasing-block residential volumetric water charges, a Water Rights Acquisition Fee, separate wastewater base and WQA-based volumetric charges, and recycled-water charges where applicable. Effective July 1, 2026, the 5/8-inch base is $13.57; single-family water is $6.26 per 1,000 gallons for the first 6,000, $6.78 for 7,000-10,000 and $7.31 above 10,000. The Water Rights Acquisition Fee is the greater of $6.37 or $0.53 per 1,000 gallons.
- Residential cost reference
- Approximately $139 per month for a 5/8-inch single-family account using 6,000 gallons, before any separate recycled-water charge or unusual fees: $13.57 water base plus $37.56 water usage plus the $6.37 minimum Water Rights Acquisition Fee, and $15.72 wastewater base plus about $66.18 wastewater usage at an equivalent 6,000-gallon WQA. Actual sewer volume is governed by the customer's WQA, not necessarily the current month's outdoor usage.
- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- Rio Rancho calculates wastewater using the Winter Quarter Average from December, January and February consumption because it represents indoor use. The City divides total winter consumption by service days and multiplies the daily average by 30.42, or 30.50 in a leap year; the resulting monthly WQA is used starting in March. New residential accounts use actual consumption or the residential class average, whichever is less, and the current class average is 4,000 gallons. The July 1, 2026 sewer rate is $15.72 base plus $11.03 per 1,000 WQA gallons for non-City classes.
- Meter reading
- Rio Rancho bills by metered consumption and uses the December-January-February meter history for the annual WQA calculation; the new WQA begins in March. The reviewed current pages do not identify AMR/AMI equipment, radio transmission interval or a fixed route-read date, so customers should rely on the monthly bill and Utility Services account history.
- Activation or transfer fee
- $45.00 administrative fee for each new, reactivated or transferred water-account application. Applicants submit the appropriate residential/commercial form, identification and occupancy/business documents by email, mail or fax; if service is off, a release-for-reconnection form may also be required.
