Pay City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities – Division of Water and Sewer Services

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as SchedulePayment / City of Columbus Public Utilities Customer Portal; the current City payment pages do not name a separate processor. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Phone IVR

833-735-2762 for automated card payments; 614-645-8276 for the Columbus Public Utilities customer-service and payment-arrangement line

Have your account number and payment instrument ready. Follow the provider’s recorded prompts and retain the confirmation number.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

The current Columbus payment portal advertises paperless eBill, portal communications, and automatic payment, but the reviewed 2026 City pages do not publish a dedicated pay-by-text keyword, short code, or text-to-pay reply workflow. Customers should register at the Customer Portal, enable available eBill/communications preferences, and use the portal or 833-735-2762 for payment. A customer should not send card or bank credentials by SMS; confirm any text message with 614-645-8276.

Mail-in address

Columbus City Treasurer - Power, Sewer & Water Services P.O. Box 182882 Columbus, OH 43218-2882. Make the check payable to Columbus City Treasurer, include the utility account number in the memo line, and use the return envelope or remittance directions printed on the bill.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

The Columbus Water & Power walk-in payment office is at 111 N. Front Street, Columbus, OH 43215, open weekdays 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with free short-term parking and an after-hours drop box. More than 125 authorized agents also accept Columbus utility payments, including many Kroger, Meijer, Giant Eagle, and Walgreens locations; the City's current FAQ says these contracted locations charge a $2 convenience fee and customers should verify the active list through Western Union or 1-800-325-6000. If a turn-off postcard has been received, a door is tagged, or service is terminated, call 614-645-8276 rather than relying on an agent payment alone.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

The Columbus customer portal supports eCheck, credit-card payment, paperless eBill, and automatic payments. The phone payment line accepts Visa, Discover, Mastercard, and American Express. The current City materials do not identify Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, or PayPal as supported utility payment instruments; checks, money orders, cash, and cashier's-check options depend on the in-person or contracted-agent channel.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

The City's current payment-options information does not publish a separate online portal surcharge in the reviewed 2026 pages. Authorized contracted payment locations charge a $2 convenience fee. Customers should confirm the live portal disclosure before using a credit card because payment-vendor terms can change; direct bank eCheck and City-office methods are the preferred fee-avoidance options.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities – Division of Water and Sewer Services and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
