Delinquency and service protection

Understand the shut-off process before it reaches your door

The safest time to ask about a past-due balance, payment arrangement, or hardship protection is before the final notice. This page translates the provider’s published rules into a practical checklist.

Notice and timing

How delinquency is handled

Grace period after the due date

Bills are due by 3:00 p.m. on the 12th. A 10% late fee is added, and the account must be paid by 3:00 p.m. on the 22nd to avoid the scheduled disconnect on the 23rd; this is a ten-day delinquency window after the due date.

Late-fee calculation

Unpaid bills receive a 10% late fee. A $30 reconnect fee is added when the account reaches the disconnect stage. The code also lists $50 meter-tampering and $50 post-nonpayment meter-lock/pull charges, plus a $30 water-transfer fee.

Disconnection timeline

Monthly bill is issued the last business day; payment is due by 3:00 p.m. on the 12th; a 10% late fee applies; payment by 3:00 p.m. on the 22nd avoids the additional $30 reconnect charge; disconnects occur on the 23rd. Payment before 3:00 p.m. on the 23rd is reconnected the same day, while payment after 3:00 p.m. is restored the next business day.

Statutory warning protocol

What notice should you expect?

The current Jourdanton utility page publishes the 12th/22nd/23rd schedule but does not specify mailed notices, automated calls, text reminders, colored paper, or door hangers. The water-service agreement must be signed before a new or re-established service begins.

If a notice seems wrong

Document the account balance, payment confirmation, notice date, and any household medical or accessibility concern. Then call the provider using the contact information on its official bill or profile before the stated deadline.

Restoring service

Reconnection costs and timing

$30 reconnect fee for nonpayment. Payment received before 3:00 p.m. on the disconnect date is restored the same day; payment after 3:00 p.m. is restored the next business day. The code separately lists temporary-stop reconnection at $30 during normal hours and $45 after hours.

Need a payment arrangement?

Ask before the shut-off date

Tell the customer-service representative that you are responding to a delinquency notice and ask specifically about installment plans, hardship protection, charity referrals, and the amount required to stop the disconnection order.

Customer protection guide

What to do when a bill becomes urgent

A delinquency notice from City of Jourdanton Utility Department should be treated as a time-sensitive account document. Read the exact due date, amount required, notice method, and contact instructions on the notice, then compare them with the provider details in this guide.

If you have already paid, gather the confirmation number and posting date. If you cannot pay the full amount, call before the stated shut-off date and ask about arrangements, hardship protections, agency referrals, and the minimum amount needed to pause action.

Keep the conversation specific: ask what will stop the order, when the payment must post, whether a reconnection fee applies, and whether the utility requires a separate request for medical, accessibility, or household-protection status.
