Payment channels

Pay McAllen Public Utility (MPU) Customer Relations and Utility Billing

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as McAllen Public Utility MyBills / QuickPay (legacy DotNetNuke-hosted portal; no separate payment-gateway vendor is disclosed). Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Telephone payment

Phone IVR

(956) 681-1600, choose option 1 for automated payments. The IVR is published as available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; option 2 reaches a live payment agent and option 3 reaches Customer Service.

Have your account number and payment instrument ready. Follow the provider’s recorded prompts and retain the confirmation number.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

A dedicated this detail was not publicly posted. Current MPU materials describe MyBills, QuickPay, e-billing, automatic bank draft, consumption history, and 24/7 IVR payments, but publish no text-to-pay short code, keyword, or SMS enrollment procedure.

Mail-in address

McAllen Public Utility, PO Box 280, McAllen, TX 78505. MPU warns customers to ensure mailed payments arrive before the disconnect-notice due date because the utility does not assume responsibility for postal delivery delays.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

McAllen City Hall Main Lobby, 1300 Houston Avenue, McAllen, TX 78501: customer service, cashiers, and walk-in payments Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The drive-through is for payments Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The City also maintains a night deposit box at City Hall for checks only, not cash. Customer Service is (956) 681-1600. MPU's directory also lists wastewater operations at 4100 West Idela Avenue, but current public materials do not present that site as a regular residential payment counter.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

MyBills and QuickPay accept credit/debit cards and e-checks; registered customers can set up monthly automatic bank draft and e-billing. QuickPay limits a one-time e-check payment to $7,500 and a credit/debit-card payment to $500. Automatic bank draft is described as free once active. No current official page confirms Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or other digital wallets.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

$2.75 per credit/debit-card or e-check transaction is published in MPU's payment-methods material and current new-service instructions. The current new-service page specifically states that electronically paying deposits and fees by card or e-check incurs the $2.75 charge; customers using the City Hall counter can use non-electronic methods to avoid it.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by McAllen Public Utility (MPU) Customer Relations and Utility Billing and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
