Payment channels

Pay Milwaukee Water Works

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as Milwaukee Water Works account portal; vendor not separately identified on the current public login page.. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Telephone payment

Phone IVR

(414) 286-2830. The Customer Service Center and IVR accept automated account access and payment selection; the current 2026 bill document lists phone payment capability and customer service hours Monday-Friday.

Have your account number and payment instrument ready. Follow the provider’s recorded prompts and retain the confirmation number.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

Milwaukee Water Works offers email and text notifications from the city water website, but the current 2026 customer and payment documents do not publish a text-to-pay keyword, enrollment short code, or payment-by-SMS credential flow. Customers should use the account portal, IVR, ACH DirectPaymentPlan, or the official payment locations; pay-by-text is recorded as not publicly stated rather than inferred from general text alerts.

Mail-in address

Make the check or money order payable to Milwaukee Water Works and mail it to P.O. Box 3268, Milwaukee, WI 53201-3268. The account number and service address should be included so the remittance is credited correctly.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

The Milwaukee Water Works Customer Service Center is in the Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway, Room 406, Milwaukee, WI 53202, with published payment hours Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The City Treasurer's Office at City Hall, 200 E. Wells Street, accepts payments Monday-Friday 8:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Payment drop boxes are at the Zeidler Municipal Building Broadway/Market Street entrances and City Hall; no cash should be placed in the drop boxes. In-person windows accept cash, checks, money orders, and cashier's checks, but not debit or credit cards. Current customer-service pages also list revised walk-in/phone hours of 8:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m., so customers should verify the live office schedule before traveling.

What you can use online

The current 2026 bill document lists one-time online payments through the Milwaukee Water Works portal using American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, or an eCheck from a checking or savings account. The telephone system accepts eCheck and the same major cards. Customers may enroll in recurring ACH withdrawal through DirectPaymentPlan.com or by calling customer service; auto-pay requires a zero current balance to start and normally takes six to eight weeks to activate.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

The official 2026 Milwaukee Municipal Services Bill document lists a 1.95% credit-card convenience fee for online payments and a $0.40 per-transaction eCheck fee. The same document lists phone-payment fees of 3.75% for credit cards and $3.00 for eCheck. These are pass-through convenience charges required by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission/payment service; ACH auto-withdrawal is the fee-avoidance option.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by Milwaukee Water Works and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
