Dataset releases and presentation changes are recorded separately so a redesigned page is not mistaken for newly verified utility information.

  1. October 22, 2026 · presentation release and record corrections

    Task-first utility pages and state guides

    • Rebuilt utility profiles around ways to pay, account facts, and help, and removed coverage percentages from reader-facing pages.
    • Topic pages and profiles without enough provider-specific detail are now kept out of search indexes; their URLs still work. The rule is explained in the methodology.
    • Added state-specific guidance on regulators, shut-off protections, and assistance to every state directory.
    • Published a leak-adjustment comparison and twelve new consumer guides.
    • Updated 322 utility records that still described the federal Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) as open. Federal funding ended and state programs closed in 2024; local assistance details were kept.
    • Corrected two records after checking provider sources: the San Antonio Water System phone and card-fee attribution, and North Austin MUD No. 1's billing operator, payment portal, and billing schedule.

    Apart from the LIHWAP wording, only the records named above were rechecked on this date.

    Evidence-first profile redesign

    • Separated provider-specific research notes from unavailable fields.
    • Added visible documentation coverage, verification routes, PWS identifiers, and correction links.
    • Published open-data export, methodology, and national/state research reports.
    • Restricted advertising code to substantive editorial and research pages.
    • Preserved existing utility URLs and added a standards-compliant robots file.

    This release changes presentation and analysis. It does not claim that all underlying utility records were rechecked on this date.

    Nationwide directory compilation

    Compiled 3,500 source rows and normalized ten exact duplicate aliases into 3,490 canonical listings for analysis. The methodology documents source priority, automation, field definitions, and limitations.
