Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
20 days after rendering; bills become delinquent after 20 days and a $5 penalty is automatically added if unpaid within that period. Service may be discontinued if payment is not made within 30 days after the due date.
Late-fee calculation
A $5.00 penalty is added automatically after the 20-day payment period. If a bill remains unpaid 30 days after the due date, service may be discontinued. A consumer's claim that a bill is erroneous must be presented before delinquency to prevent the delinquency process; late claims do not automatically stop discontinuance.
Disconnection timeline
Bills are rendered monthly, become delinquent after 20 days with a $5 penalty, and may be subject to mailed delinquent notices. If payment is not made within 30 days after the due date, HCWA may discontinue service. If a disconnect notice is active, the customer must call HCWA before paying online; after disconnection, the full balance, any required deposit, and a $100 service charge per reconnected meter are required, and restoration can take up to 48 hours after payment is received and reported.
