Provider-specific findings

Billing and account research from public material

Provider-specific research notes are displayed separately from fields that contain only an unavailable-information marker. Read qualifiers in each note and verify current account terms with the provider.

Billing frequency
Approximately quarterly/90-day billing. WAWNC's current rate page states that tariff rates are based on a 90-day period, and the customer-rights brochure says bills are due upon receipt.
Rate structure
Public-authority tariff with a basic service charge/minimum and metered consumption charges, with rates effective June 1, 2025 and an overall 3.21% increase. The 2026 public rate page presents the detailed tables as images, so the exact 5/8-inch residential figures are recorded as not publicly documented rather than transcribed from an inaccessible image.
Wastewater and sewer calculation
WAWNC is a water authority and the reviewed billing/rate pages describe water charges, not a WAWNC wastewater or sewer billing program. Sewer charges, if applicable to a customer's property, are billed by another local provider and should not be inferred from the WAWNC water bill.
Meter reading
WAWNC typically obtains actual reads on 98% of accounts. Most meters have outside reading devices, and the Authority is converting customers to radio reads collected by handheld receivers from moving vehicles. If an outside device or meter cannot be read, the Authority leaves a notice and may accept a customer-supplied reading or arrange a field revisit; the applicable tariff is billed on a 90-day period.
New-account deposit
WAWNC requires deposits on all customer accounts: $50 for owner-occupied residential locations billed to the owner, $200 for non-owner-occupied residential locations billed to the occupant, and $200 for commercial locations. An additional $50 deposit is required each time service is discontinued for nonpayment. Deposits earn interest and are refunded, net of any balance, when the account terminates.
Activation or transfer fee
A customer initiation fee is charged when service is applied for and a termination fee is charged on closing; the current fee amounts are not exposed on the public page. These fees cover office and field labor for starting and ending an account.
