- Billing frequency
- Monthly. OKC Utilities bills water, wastewater, trash/recycling, and drainage components monthly. Eligible residential customers can enroll in Average Monthly Billing if they have an individual meter, have received at least one bill, use Auto Pay, and are not past due; the averaged amount is reconciled when service ends or the program stops.
- Rate structure
- Monthly fixed meter base charge plus a four-tier inclining water-volume structure, with separate sewer, stormwater drainage, and trash/recycling charges. For inside-OKC single-family/duplex/triplex customers under the rate period November 2025-October 2026, a 5/8-inch meter has a $22.02 monthly base charge; water is $4.18 per 1,000 gallons for 0-2,000 gallons, $5.95 for 2,001-10,000, $8.31 for 10,001-25,000, and $11.08 above 25,000. Rates adjust each November and the stormwater fee adjusts each July; the posted November 2026 column shows the next increases.
- Residential cost reference
- For an inside-OKC 5/8-inch residential account using 5,000-7,000 gallons during the current 2026 rate period, water is approximately $48-$60 before sewer, drainage, trash, and other charges: $22.02 base plus the first tier and usage above 2,000 gallons. A representative 6,000-gallon calculation is approximately $53.82 water, about $47.20 sewer using the 5/8-inch $10.84 base and a 6,000-gallon AWC-capped sewer estimate, $6.71 drainage, and $28.46 bundled trash/recycling/bulky service, or roughly $136 before taxes/other account items. Actual sewer is governed by the winter average and current bill days.
- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- OKC's residential wastewater charge uses the Winter Average Consumption recorded in December, January, and February to cap the monthly sewer charge for the billing year beginning in April. The 5/8-inch sewer base for the November 2025-October 2026 rate period is $10.84 per month and the published volume rate up to AWC is $6.06 per 1,000 gallons; high summer water usage above the winter average does not automatically increase the capped residential sewer component. Water use continues to affect the water charge, and accounts without a usable winter average follow the City's applicable estimation rules.
- Meter reading
- OCWUT bills retail water based on individual customer meter readings and maintains residential meters, replacing them on a regularly scheduled basis. The City describes a meter upgrade program using AMR technology; the portal/app allows customers to compare water-use history and detect spikes. Normal billing is monthly, and the City's sewer calculation uses December-January-February Winter Average Consumption. The public pages do not claim universal hourly AMI data for every account, so actual/estimated-read behavior and usage detail depend on meter type and account equipment.
- New-account deposit
- The public OKC start/transfer and payment pages do not publish one universal 2026 residential startup-deposit amount. New or transferred service requires identity information including date of birth and Social Security number, and the City may apply account-specific credit, premise, or service rules. Customers should use the Start Service workflow at okcutilities.com or call (405) 297-2833 to confirm any deposit, occupancy documentation, prior-balance requirement, and refund conditions before activation.
- Activation or transfer fee
- New, stopped, and transferred Oklahoma City water/sewer/trash service is requested through the Service tab at okcutilities.com or the My OKC Utilities app, or by calling (405) 297-2833. The current public customer pages do not state a universal residential activation, transfer, or name-change fee; customers should confirm any turn-on, field, meter, inspection, or after-hours charge with Customer Service before selecting a service date.
