Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

Austin does not publish a text-to-pay keyword enrollment flow for utility bills. Paymentus supports a cash-at-checkout workflow in which the customer opens the Quick Payment portal, chooses Cash, enters the service ZIP code, selects a participating retailer, and receives a barcode by text or email. The barcode is account-specific, retailer-specific, valid for 24 hours, and must be scanned at checkout; the customer then pays cash and receives a receipt. This is a barcode delivery method rather than a confirmed SMS command-based recurring payment program.

Mail-in address

City of Austin Utility Customer Service, P.O. Box 2267, Austin, TX 78783-2267. Mail payments may be personal check, cashier’s check, or money order. Customers should include the bill payment stub and should not mail cash.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

City of Austin Utilities accepts cash, personal or cashier’s checks, and money orders at two walk-in Utility Customer Service Centers: North, 8716 Research Blvd., Suite 115, Austin, TX 78758, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; and South, 1901 W. William Cannon Drive, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78745, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Authorized pay stations include ACE Cash Express, CVS, Dollar General, H-E-B, Office Depot, Randalls, Regions Bank, Walgreens, Walmart/Woodforest, and Western Union locations; they generally require a bill or Paymentus barcode and may charge handling fees of approximately $0.75–$2.95. Drop boxes are at 625 E. 10th Street, 505 Barton Springs Road, 8716 Research Blvd. Suite 115, and 1901 W. William Cannon Drive Suite 100. Drop-box payments accept checks and money orders, not cash; after-hours deposits post on the next business day and may take 3–5 business days, and a drop box must not be used after a nonpayment disconnection notice.

The portal posts the payment immediately or the same day. Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by City of Austin Water & Wastewater (Austin Water) and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
