- Billing frequency
- Monthly, on a tier schedule. Bills are generated on monthly meter cycles, with payment due approximately 15 business days after the bill date. The City states that read-to-bill timing is currently approximately 37 days while it works toward a 15-day gap, and customers receive a bill based on actual consumption rather than an estimated monthly allowance except when a meter cannot be read.
- Rate structure
- Increasing block tier rates with a monthly base charge. For the common 3/4-inch residential meter, the April 2026 water base is $9.69. Volume rates are $3.25 per 1,000 gallons for 1-3,000 gallons, $7.15 for 3,001-10,000, $9.50 for 10,001-25,000, and $11.53 above 25,000. The City is implementing a multi-year adopted increase; the rates in this record are the April 2026 schedule in effect during the current 2026 research period. Residential garbage is billed separately at $21.69 per month including fees and sales tax under the current AmeriWaste contract.
- Residential cost reference
- Using the April 2026 3/4-inch residential schedule, 5,000 gallons is approximately $33.74 water ($9.69 base + 3×$3.25 + 2×$7.15) and $38.37 sewer ($17.38 base + 3×$3.13 + 2×$5.80), plus the current $21.69 monthly residential garbage charge, or approximately $93.80 before any other account-specific charges. At 7,000 gallons, the corresponding estimate is $48.04 water + $49.97 sewer + $21.69 garbage, approximately $119.70. These are planning estimates only: the City does not publish a separate residential drainage charge on the current utility rate page, and actual sewer usage is capped at 10,000 gallons.
- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- League City does not separately meter residential sewer. Sewer volume is based on the same metered water consumption used for the bill, subject to a 10,000-gallon sewer cap because outdoor irrigation, pools, and other uses may not enter the sanitary system. For April 2026, the residential sewer base is $17.38 for 3/4-inch-and-larger service; sewer volume is $3.13 per 1,000 gallons for 0-3,000 and $5.80 per 1,000 gallons for 3,001-10,000. The current FAQ explains that a 5,000-gallon water cycle therefore produces 5,000 gallons of sewer billing, while the cap limits higher consumption.
- Meter reading
- League City uses transmitted residential 3/4-inch and 1-inch Sensus iPERL meters and provides a separate Sensus Analytics Water Usage Tracker. The tracker displays the last transmitted meter reading with its date and time, current-period and historical usage, daily and billing-cycle views, and data downloads. Customers can view 24-hour, 7-day, 30-day, 12-month, or custom ranges and configure email or text usage alerts, including a vacation alert. The City states that meters are read monthly by geographic billing cycle, bills actual rather than routinely estimated consumption, and bills in thousands of gallons; it publishes read dates by cycle but does not promise a universal radio-transmission interval beyond the transmitted reading shown in the tracker.
- New-account deposit
- There is no upfront payment at the time of the online start-service request, but the City states that a deposit and administrative fee are placed on the first statement. The application requires government identification, the last four digits of the Social Security or tax ID number, proof of residency or a lease/closing document, and applicant information; the City may request additional documentation. The current public residential pages do not state a universal deposit dollar amount, credit-check waiver, or standard refund period. The City may review active accounts and add a $100 deposit for a poor payment record. Separate physical connection charges also exist: the January 2024 residential fee sheet lists a 3/4-inch water tap at $225, a 3/4-inch meter at $270, and a sewer tap at $250, where applicable to a new physical connection rather than an ordinary tenant activation.
- Activation or transfer fee
- New residents submit the City's online New Service Application; moving from one League City residence to another requires a transfer form. The application warns that same-day or after-hours connection fees may apply and that the deposit and administrative fee appear on the first statement, but the current public pages do not publish the ordinary administrative fee or a fixed transfer fee. The January 2024 service-connection schedule separately lists residential physical tap and meter charges, including $225 for a 3/4-inch water tap, $250 for a sewer tap, and $270 for a 3/4-inch meter.
