The current Southern Utilities information lists a $28.00 minimum monthly charge including zero gallons, $2.31 per 1,000 gallons for the first 6,000 gallons, $3.30 for the next 6,000 and $4.30 above 12,000, plus a $0.34 monthly docket expense rider and a 1% state-mandated assessment on total water charges.
- Residential cost reference
- Under the current tariff, approximately 5,000 gallons costs about $40.15 including the $28 minimum, $11.55 usage, $0.34 rider and 1% assessment. Approximately 7,000 gallons costs about $45.74 on the same basis. These are water-only estimates; service area, meter size, taxes and any other approved tariff items can change the bill.
- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- Southern Utilities' verified current tariff and customer information are for public water supply and do not publish a municipal wastewater or sewer charge, winter average or intake-percentage formula. The reviewed record is therefore water-only; any separate wastewater provider must be identified for the service address.
- Meter reading
- Southern Utilities states that individual monthly bills are determined from monthly water-meter readings. The reviewed official materials do not identify AMI or AMR equipment, hourly transmission, remote-read capability or a more precise route schedule.
- New-account deposit
- A standard residential customer deposit is $50, except for qualifying residential applicants under the company's criteria. The deposit is credited back at service termination after all charges are paid, or after 18 consecutive months of service without a nonpayment disconnection and without a delinquent bill; interest at the Public Utility Commission-prescribed rate is credited annually.
- Activation or transfer fee
- The current tariff lists a $50 service-initiation fee for opening an account. A standard 5/8 x 3/4-inch new connection also requires a $1,050 non-refundable tap fee where the property is adjacent to existing distribution lines; larger meters, road bores and unique extensions may add actual-cost charges. The older customer document's $30 connection fee is superseded by the current 2025-revised information/tariff.
