- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- Sewer is calculated directly from metered water consumption, with a 5/8-inch inside-city monthly minimum/service charge of $11.25 and a wastewater rate of $5.50 per 1,000 gallons. For a residential customer using an unmetered water supply, the sewer charge is a $19.70 flat monthly rate. MWRD also automatically applies a summer sewer adjustment April-October when usage exceeds the winter-month average plus 20%; customers can request an extension when metered water was not discharged to the sewer.
- Meter reading
- MWRD completed AMI installation for more than 26,000 meters in June 2017. Digital meters use radio transmitters, fixed-network radio telemetry, wireless cellular communication, and an Itron-hosted analytics/customer portal integrated with MWRD billing systems. Meters are read remotely every month; the RF transmitter sends a reading about once per hour, supports daily usage monitoring and continuous leak alerts, and each meter has a unique identifier.
- New-account deposit
- MWRD does not require a deposit for residential new service. The current new-service form states that a $40 non-refundable service fee applies to all new or transferred service requests; it does not state a credit-check waiver or deposit-return rule.
- Activation or transfer fee
- $40 non-refundable service initiation fee, added to the first bill, for new or transferred service. Residential requests received by 4:30 p.m. are normally processed the following business day; requests after 4:30 p.m. through midnight are processed in two business days. A valid photo ID is required and applicants must provide service/address information.
