- Wastewater and sewer calculation
- Residential wastewater has a $15.04 monthly facility charge and a $5.19 per-1,000-gallon volume charge for FY2026. Because the City does not meter wastewater separately, the volume charge is based on 100% of the customer's average monthly water billed during December, January, and February of the preceding winter period, with an 18,000-gallon monthly cap. The winter average establishes the charge for the following cycle; customers without sufficient history are assigned the City's published default calculation until a qualifying average is available. Pool filling should be coordinated with Customer Service so the extra water can be excluded from the wastewater calculation where applicable.
- Meter reading
- Denton is transitioning from monthly physical water-meter reads captured with handheld devices to an advanced metering infrastructure program. The April 2026 City announcement says Council approved a $26 million Badger Meter contract; implementation is expected to begin in summer 2026, with meter replacements throughout the community and full implementation anticipated by the end of 2028. The future system is intended to provide real-time usage information, leak detection, and continuous monitoring. Until the rollout is complete, the City's audit-described baseline is monthly physical reads uploaded from handheld field devices; the current public pages do not claim that every account already has AMI service.
- New-account deposit
- For standard accounts, the City runs a soft credit check and may require a deposit up to two months of average billing for the service address. The utility ordinance describes a residential deposit as up to one-sixth of the last 12 months of billing, with exemptions for acceptable City or external credit, certain documented family-violence situations, or qualifying AutoPay/payment history. Residential deposits are refunded after one year of good payment history. An alternative Pay As You Go account has no deposit and requires an initial payment of at least $50, but customers must address any existing City debt and use the prepaid balance model.

- Residential service can be connected, transferred, or disconnected through the City's 24/7 online forms or by calling (940) 349-8700 during business hours. The current 2026 customer pages do not publish a separate residential activation or transfer dollar charge; they do require identification, a lease or proof of purchase when applicable, and payment of any outstanding City debt before connection. Historical rate brochures list connection and application charges, but those amounts are not asserted as the current 2026 schedule. Pay As You Go enrollment requires an initial payment of at least $50.
