Billing and account research from public material

Provider-specific research notes are displayed separately from fields that contain only an unavailable-information marker. Read qualifiers in each note and verify current account terms with the provider.

Billing frequency
Monthly. The city states that water bills contain the service charge, monthly water usage, sewer usage charge, and storm-drain charge. The sewer winter-quarter average is recalculated each spring and appears on the April bill.
Rate structure
Increasing block tiers priced per 1,000 gallons, plus meter-size base charges and a separate storm-drain charge. Effective January 1, 2026, residential water usage is $5.80 per 1,000 gallons for Tier I (0–5,000 gallons), $7.30 for Tier II (5,001–10,000), $10.42 for Tier III (10,001–19,999), and $14.60 for Tier IV (20,000 gallons and above). The 2026 5/8- or 3/4-inch residential water base charge is $15.69 per month; larger meters have higher base charges. Irrigation, multifamily, and commercial schedules use their own allocations and tiers.
Residential cost reference
Using the city’s 2026 5/8- or 3/4-inch base charges, a rough combined water, sewer, and storm-drain estimate is about $90.12 at 5,000 gallons and $115.64 at 7,000 gallons when sewer usage is assumed to equal the same volume. The calculation uses the $15.69 water base, $5.95 sewer base, $12.18 storm-drain charge, residential water tiers, and $5.46 per 1,000 gallons of sewer usage. Actual bills can differ substantially because sewer usage is based on the property’s winter-quarter average rather than simply the current water meter reading, and taxes, adjustments, irrigation, or other services may apply.
Wastewater and sewer calculation
Residential sewer usage is charged at $5.46 per 1,000 gallons in the 2026 schedule, in addition to the meter-size sewer base charge; a 5/8- or 3/4-inch meter has a $5.95 monthly sewer base. Aurora determines the usage component from the winter-quarter average, calculated from average December, January, and February water use, then recalculates the average each spring and begins the new sewer amount on the April bill. New accounts and accounts without a usable winter history may be handled under the city’s applicable new-account or default rules, so the current bill—not a generic equal-water-use assumption—controls the amount due.
Meter reading
Aurora Water is upgrading its service area to Advanced Metering Infrastructure. AMI meters transmit readings over a cellular signal, with daily consumption data and, on upgraded meters, hourly data available through the city’s EyeOnWater and customer-portal tools. Aurora uses the data to support consumption monitoring and continuous-flow alerts; its current leak page says an alert can be generated after continuous use persists for at least 24 hours. Customers can register with the account number and service-location billing ZIP, review usage patterns, and investigate possible leaks before the next monthly bill.
New-account deposit
Aurora Water states that it does not collect deposits on water accounts. The current public billing materials therefore do not provide a universal residential deposit amount, credit-check waiver, or deposit-return schedule. This should not be confused with development or new-connection charges, hydrant-meter deposits, or other construction-related fees that may apply to a property or temporary service. Applicants with an unusual commercial, landlord, or prior-debt situation should confirm account-specific requirements with Customer Service.
Activation or transfer fee
The current fee schedule lists $38.25 for a new customer account turn-on request, $38.25 for a customer-requested turn-on, and $38.25 for a customer-requested shutoff. A property transfer or seller/buyer change should be handled through Aurora’s account-start/stop process; the city warns that a buyer may have to address past-due amounts when property is purchased outside a closing arrangement. New physical water connections can also carry a separate water-service connection charge based on the applicable infrastructure and water-resource rules, which is different from an ordinary billing-account activation.
